Somadrone
Somadrone began as a project to document some home recordings from old tape machines and 4-track recorders in 1999. The intervening years involved playing, recording and touring in Europe and America as part of The Redneck Manifesto. The debut album released in 2005, is a collection of recordings from six years of producing and features instruments such as Vibraphone, Harp, Theremin, Indian Drone Machines and Analogue Synths. Somadrone’s music ranges from electro-acoustic pieces to miniature symphonies and electronic interludes. With suggestions of ambient Aphex Twin, Brian Eno and Steve Reich, Somadone carefully construct atmospheric soundscapes that are both wordless and beautiful.
Somadrone will perform a newly composed score for Chris Marker’s haunting and unique masterpiece, La Jette along with tracks from the forthcoming album due out in May.
La Jetée is the pillar of one of the most daring and uncompromising careers in cinema history. Chris Marker has been challenging audiences, philosophers, and himself for years with his complex queries about time, memory and the rapid advancement of life on this planet. The film tells the bizarre story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time travel told in still images. La Jetée, the inspiration for Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys, is one of the most influential and radical sci-fi films ever made.
