“A magician who put the cinematograph into a hat and took out Cinema.” (Edgar Morin)
Georges Méliès is one of the most amazing cinema personalities. Between 1896 and 1913, he produced, directed and distributed more than 520 films, most of which he even performed as an actor. Méliès was the father of special effects and the first to use the cam- era for fictional purposes and to tell a story using film sets. Through his knowledge of illusionism he invented cinema trickery much of which remains a key element in modern day filmmaking.
Marie-Hélène Lehérissey (Méliès’ great-grand-daughter) and Lawrence Lehérissey (Méliès’ great-great-grandson) present an exclusive cine-concert with a choice programme of Georges Méliès’ short films illustrated as they were in the 1900’s, by piano improvisations and narration. The original rolls used were found, restored and preserved by Les Amis de Georges Méliès.
